OUR INVESTMENT IN THE ENVIRONMENT

At the Durbanville Hills Winery, we subscribe to a set of environmentally friendly grape-growing practices known as the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW). This covers harvesting, the transportation of grapes, winemaking processes and wasting management; practices which are critical to securing long-term sustainability of non-renewable resources.

We’re also an accredited member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI) – a partnership between the South African wine industry and the conservation sector – which is aimed at restricting further loss of any natural habitat in the Cape Floral Kingdom.

OUR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We established the Durbanville Hills Workers’ Trust in 2000, working towards improving the quality of life of our employees on the surrounding farms as well as their children.

The workers of the nine producer-members of our winery, together with the company’s own cellar workers, have both a stake in the business and a seat on the Board of Directors. The Trust has initiated several income-generating ventures to fund projects such as school children’s tuition, a crèche and a life-skills programme run by a full-time tutor.
