News and Events: Two Top 10 Accolades for Durbanville Hills’ cool climate Sauvignon Blancs!
Our Sauvignon Blanc excelled and achieved two Top 10 accolades in the Prescient Sauvignon Blanc Report 2020.
The report is convened by Winemag.co.za and sponsored by multinational financial services company Prescient and more than 115 entries were judged across three sub-categories.
Sauvignon Blanc is a rather distinctive cultivar with its fresh acidity and aromatic flavour profile. This particular varietal thrives in the cool-climate location of the Durbanville area where the vines are situated only 10km from the ocean and cooled by the south-easterly breezes blowing in from nearby False Bay.
The Tangram White 2018 is a well-balanced, elegant blend of 76% Sauvignon Blanc and 24% Semillon and this small production wine is a true reflection of the inspiration behind the range’s name.
A Tangram is a Chinese geometrical seven-piece puzzle which can be arranged to make various forms and pictures to tell a story. The seven pieces for the Tangram wine range comprise the four elements (earth, wind, fire and water) and the three winemakers, all combining to create a wine that is indeed greater than its parts.
Aromas of fresh citrus, orange blossom, summer berries and a mix bowl of fresh fruit combine effortlessly with hints of lime and minerality. The mouth feel is rich and creamy with concentrated complexity, sweet wood spice, tropical fruit and hints of melon, and minerality. The finish is fresh and lingering.
The Collectors Reserve Cape Mist Sauvignon Blanc pays tribute to the cool climate of the Durbanville area, and the Cape Mist that bath the vines in cool, moist air, slows down ripening for exceptional quality grapes.
The wine opens up with beautifully integrated notes of pink grape fruit, yellow nectarine, poached guava with hints of passion fruit and summer melon. The palate is full and creamy with citrus, guava, passion fruit aromas ending with a lingering freshness.
